Melissa has owned The Barking Lot since 2006 and brings her passion and vast knowledge of animals into all areas of the business. Melissa grew up in the professional dog world, travelling to dog shows and learning about different breeds. She started working for a local handler at the age of 14; since then, she has worked at various high end pet care facilities and vet clinics throughout the US working to expand her knowledge and skills. Melissa started showing dogs professionally on her own at the age of 21, she has bred, owned and handled some of America's top winning show dogs, regularly being invited to prestigious shows as the Westminster Kennel Club and the American Kennel Club Tournament of Champions. Melissa specializes in Sporting, Working, Toy and Terrier breeds but in proficient in all breeds. She is a member of the International Professional Groomers Association, International Boarding and Pet Services Association and Take the Lead. Melissa also has various certifications including Animal Behavior, Canine Massage Therapy, Pet first Aid and CPR and Pet Care Specialist Tech. Melissa along with all The Barking Lot staff attend regular continuing education seminars to stay up to date with the latest trends and products in the industry. Melissa and her husband Jay live with their 5 pets Huey a Spinone, Sienna a Pointer, Rover a Pointer, Nicolas a Water Dog and Journey a Spinone as well as their two sons Carter and Colin.
